Quizá os preguntéis de que estamos hablando, pues lo hacemos de una colaboración entre el Alcalde de Londres y la revista Grazia con motivo de las Olimpiadas culturales, que se celebran a la vez que los Juegos, patrocinada por BT y que ha consistido en colocar sombreros sobre los más ilustres monumentos de la ciudad uniendo la historia, la alta costura y, como dicen ellos, una saludable dosis de excentricidad.

Al parecer tuvieron que convencer a varios organismos, la famosa burocracia, por lo que fue una gran ayuda contar en el equipo con dos de los mejores sombrereros del mundo, Phillip Treacy y Stephen Jones. También hubo dificultades para la elección de las estatuas, unas se excluyeron por miedo a ofender, monumentos a la 1ª y 2ª Guerra Mundial, y otros por motivos logísticos, la organización olímpica lo impidió por estar situadas en rutas especiales. Al final se eligieron 21 estatuas y se llamó a diseñadores como Herbert Johnson, Gina Foster o William Chambers.

Aún siendo un gran escaparate para una de sus más importantes industrias, lo que según ellos realmente les importa es lo que aprecian los londinenses cuando pasean entre ellos.

Also there were difficulties in the choice of statues, some figures ruled out for fear of causing offence, any memorials to the first or second World War, while others were it for logistical reasons, the staging of the Olympic games prevented it for being located on special routes. 21 Statues were chosen at the end and designers as Herbert Johnson, Gina Foster or William Chambers were called.

Even though been a great showcase for one of Britain’s most important industries, what they really care about is what the Londoners appreciate when they walk among them.
